iPad 3G and mini-SIM card
Todos (bueno, no todos) queremos tener una iPad en la mano, y muchos estamos esperando la version 3G. Aqui les presento un articulo que nos cuenta como usar una tarjeta SIM normal y convertirla en la mini-SIM que usa la nueva iPad.

I was in California at the end of April 2010. My friend George Chen of AdMob proudly shows me his WiFi iPad, and informs that the 3G version would be on sale starting from April 30th. It checks out. The following friday, the out-forking of $800 grants me the precious, which is still unreleased in Italy.
after figuring out how to work around my non-US iTunes (I had to go for a new phony US account), a bigger surprise is awaiting me. Apple opted for a new tiny kind of SIM card: http://modmyi.com/forums/ipad-news/708414-mod-t-sim-work-ipad-3g.html.
What a drag!
Not all is lost though. This blog (http://www.techradar.com/news/computing/apple/how-to-make-your-own-ipad-micro-sim-681020) gets me on the right track.
Back home in Italy, I reach for my MTV Mobile SIM card and I embark on the project.
With a pair of scissors I carefully cut my SIM card. Here’s the result (by the side, the original ATT mini-SIM which shipped with the iPad):
I disable the WiFi on the iPad (I did not what to get the illusion that I was online, while it was my home network), set the TIM/MTV-Mobile APN in the settings (ibox.tim.it) and off I go to hit one of my favorite websites: it works!
…and the coolest part is that I’ll only need to pay 5 Euros per month (and not $15 or even $25 as Americans) to be online from wherever. Will Steve Jobs come up with brand new Aplle-only SIM cards next time?
